We bid Molly farewell this morning. She had a good final weekend, with a couple of brief rides in the car, accepted a little bit of food, and lots of snuggles. Missus was Molly’s master in the truest sense, and this is very difficult for Missus. The vetern’ry folks were great. We had Molly for ten years and more. I don’t know if Molly had a
soul
, but her presence was a blessing to my house.

So sorry. Losing a pet is absolutely awful.

So sorry to hear of your family’s loss friend...she looked like a beautiful dog. :)

Sí. And I will be encouraging Missus to consider taking on a new charge. Missus has a work comrade who is an avid volunteer at SPCA and who will be thrilled to point us toward a pound pup that we can adopt.

Yeah, but having them ain’t so bad. Most of the time... Dogs can be annoying...

She was wonderful. She annoyed me greatly at times, but she was my wife’s dog and provided no end of delight to Missus, and that’s what counts.

Taking a beloved family dawg on a one-way trip to the vet was a new experience for me and her there on the rug, warm but lifeless, was a shock. Missus is taking it very hard because Molly was her delight. But now, our annoying little turd-brained terrier mutt has no doggie sibling, so I expect we’ll be visiting the SPCA to look for a pound pup to adopt. A mature animal who has already been found to be relatively docile and sweet.
Thank you, $kay.

Oh man, I’ll so very sorry to hear that.
I was so hoping on Molly improving.
You got to spend the final dogs together with her a little more like herself.

It was a good weekend. Molly was a very good sport, and did her best to be a dog. She came to me at one point, when I was alone in the house with her, in a way that she never did. It was subtle and intimate. I’ve never had a relationship with a dog before and it was very special. But I was not this pooch’s master; Missus was. And I respect Missus greatly for the husbandry she provided to this animal these many years. My hat is off to her.

Sorry to hear this. Glad you got some time after your last post, though. Good luck to you all

RIP Molly. She will clearly be missed.

Thanks. It was perfect. If your dog has to die of cancer, then this would be the ideal scenario.

So so rry to hear about Molly. RIP.

I’m sorry to hear that Molly passed. I’m glad you got to have one final nice weekend with her, though. I hope Mrs. O.C. is doing okay with all this.

It’s definitely not the same. I try to distance myself from her a bit. attachment is too great. I feel I will break if she left
hang in there. we’re all here for you. We all have clunkers and some have doggos so most of us have been in your shoes and know the pains.

Good girl Molly.
I’m glad you had a good weekend with her, dogs

That’s good, or at least as good as it could be. I know when my parents have lost dogs in the past it’s always been tough, but we always remember them fondly and laugh and smile about their antics. It makes it a little bit more bearable.

I know you gave her a great life. What else can any of us ask for/

Molly never cared much about squirrels and really didn’t even know how to bark until Binx came along and taught her.

I could pull back more because I was not Molly’s master.

dogs make people better.
In most cases...
I used a training (shock) collar briefly on Molly. I only actually administered the shock once or twice because there was also a beep feature and the beep was enough to get her to jump about three feet in the air. She’d go after something she wanted to eat — like poop — and everything else got shorted out. There was no getting her attention.
Anyhow, one day at the school, this dog lady asked me if I ever tried the collar on myself. My reply: “No, because I always come when my wife calls me and I don’t eat cat poop.”

I mean, it was beautiful, really, just intermingled with grief. Death is the downside of life.

Indeed. Thanks.

We were hopeful, briefly. But she was a very sick dog. Still, the palliative care got us a nice weekend with her and was well worth the effort and expense.

Yup. She was a wonderful dog, if annoying at times because, well, dog.
Thank you.

Ten years is a long time. Still, over two visits, this end-of-life experience cost $500.

I’m truly sorry for the loss of your family member. Pets are a great source of comfort and its hard to go about your routine once they’re gone.
![]() 06/03/2019 at 17:53 |

They are genetically wired to be inserted into our routines. The difficult part for me, over the past two days when she became too sick to do it, was walking up to the house and not seeing her nose in the window between the blinds.

Thanks. But you know? It was a beautiful thing, intermingled with sadness and grief. But we’ve moved on to lots of remembering and coming up with some sort of memorial for her. A beautiful thing that this simple animal with a brain the size of a walnut could be such a joy to us and our house. Very, very special.

Ten years is a long time to share with a loyal companion. You have my deepest condolences, and apolo g y for this late reply.
